If you remember back to when you were a child, you probably had some knee length socks that your mom tried to make you wear. Depending on the style of the time, they may have been what you wanted to wear. Ankle socks have become more common for both men and women, but knee socks are still popular and even necessary for some kids. They are not always in fashion, but they are not always seen too. They can be part of a uniform or something that some just prefer. This is one fashion item that will always be in style, at least for some uses for some people.

The fact is that knee length socks are not just optional, they are functional. If you live in a climate that has the changing of the seasons, you want to have some of these socks in your drawers and you want to make sure you never run out. They look no different than any other sock when you wear them under pants on inside a pair of boots, but the extra length can make all the difference when you are trying to stay warm. If you spend any amount of time out in the cold each winter, these are something that you must have unless you like a cold breeze blowing up your leg.

Those that have outdoor jobs like construction, or that have to be outdoors on and off all day are going to need a good supply of knee length socks for the very same reason. They keep your feet warm, but they also keep your leg up to your knee warm and toasty too. There are typical socks, and there are also ones that are thermal for those that really have a tough time in the cold. If you enjoy the outdoors for hunting or hiking in the winter, these socks can be pulled over long underwear under your pants to ensure your skin is completely covered and protected from frost bite.

Some children have huge problems with socks. They don't like the line on the toe, and they have trouble keeping the socks from falling down over their heels when they are walking or running. Because children's feet grow so fast, and also because of the limited sizes in socks, many children fight with ill fitting socks so much they start to find ways to avoid wearing them. Knee length socks without the seam on the toe are often the answer. They are more comfortable and the socks tend to stay in place much better than ankle socks. Your child will not mind wearing these when they throw a fit about other types of socks.

Knee length socks may not be a totally acceptable fashion statement at the moment, but they can be any day now. You just never know what will happen. They don't have to be popular to be a must-have and are just one of those things that you should have in the sock drawer in the event that you need them. They are one of those things that are not always fashionable, but they are always functional, and at times can be both. No matter what, staying warm becomes more important than fashion anyway when the weather is bitterly cold, and nothing is less appealing to look at that blue, frost bitten skin.
