Blisters happen when your foot moves in the boot. This is a sign the boots do not fit you correctly. They are either too large, too loose or the wrong shape for your foot. Get athletic foot beds custom fit for your foot to wear in your boots. This is much the same problem we have with ski boots. Custom Boot service in Seattle does a wonderful job. You must get to a top boot fitter to do the job correctly. The foot bed/ orthotic is great for making your feet happy when you are on them 6-10 hours a day. I wear them in my work boots and a different type in my ski boots.
Take your boots to a top boot shop and have them checked against your foot size and shape. The pain from blisters is not worth putting up with.
References :
Instead of wearing one pair of thick socks, I wear two pairs of thin socks. Since I started doing this I have not had a blister. Any movement occurs between the two layers of sock.
References :
Here's a couple of steps you can take to prevent getting blisters when hiking.

Step1Break in hiking shoes or boots well before your hike, wearing the same shoe-sock combination you will use on the trail.
Step2Wrap your blister-prone spots with athletic tape or duct tape before you start hiking, if you know you're likely to have a problem. Put the tape directly on your skin; when you're done hiking, take off your boots and pull off the tape immediately. The heat and sweat from your feet will make it easier to remove.
Step3Soak any developing hot spot (an area that is irritated from rubbing) in cold water or air-dry it until the spot cools.
Step4Apply a patch or doughnut of moleskin to the hot spot or cover it with tape. Theories about the pros and cons of patches, doughnuts and tape vary. Experiment and find what works best for you.
Step5Use foot powder and change into a dry pair of socks before you put your boots or shoes back on and continue hiking.

Hope this helped. =)
