What brand / type of hiking sock should I purchase for a hiking trip through the rainforest during August?
I am going on a long day hike in the el yunque rainforest in August and would like to find a hiking sock that is breathable, but supportive enough to be comfortable. Does anyone have any experience with a particular brand which works well in very high humidity?
winter or summer, I wear merino wool socks with polyester liner sock underneath
they keep my feet more comfortable than anything else I've ever tried
cotton is definitely NOT the way to go
Smartwool, Fox River, and L.L. Bean are the brands I prefer
I know wearing wool socks in hot, humid conditions sounds weird but my feet like it

I swear by Smartwool. I’ve used them since 1999 in all conditions in all seasons. They are made mostly of Merino wool. They will wick moisture away from your feet.
I’ve hiked in El Yunque, before I had Smartwool though, but I’ve been hiking since then in other similar areas. I was wearing a Smartwool Adrenaline sock. They are lighter than the regular socks. If wet, they will still have a hard time drying out in that kind of humidity, but it will be better than cotton or heavier wool.
Likewise, the Adrenaline line from Smartwool offers excellent arch support as well as good support along the instep.
Smartwool makes even lighter socks, but they don’t offer the support or comfort you will want to have on a long hike.
I’m also testing socks from Teko. I’m wearing the ultralight running socks right now. I’m no where near a rainforest to test them out, but these would dry very quickly. They don’t have the all-day support Smartwool has.
Smartwool are the only socks I will actually buy. My dress socks are Smartwool. Everything else I try I get for free. I’ve still never found any I’d buy before Smartwool.
I am not employed by Smartwool in any way, shape, or form..but I get killer deals from them due to my job and fanatical devotion.
