A six mile hike is really no big deal, but you are prone to getting blisters in your feet, here's a recomendation from a Marine medic; wear thin silk socks, then thicker cotton socks directly over them. This will keep the soles of your feet from sliding around creating friction which is a cause for blisters. This is not a fool proof method, but it kept my feet blister-free during 12-30 mile hikes.
